The "Greccio" Mystery Play – The Story of the First Nativity Scene (January 2026)

In January 2026, history came full circle at the Parish of the Holy Trinity in Bieńkówka. The residents, led by the Nazareth Community, prepared a unique spectacle – the "Greccio" Mystery Play. It was not just a standard nativity play, but a journey to the roots of Christianity and 13th-century Italy, where St. Francis created the first living nativity scene.

Austerity and Atmosphere

What distinguished this year's enactment was the resignation from splendor. The interior of the Bieńkówka church, devoid of artificial stage lighting, became the perfect background for a story about simplicity. The semi-darkness, the chill of the walls, and the candlelight in the finale built an atmosphere of deep concentration, allowing the words about love that "does not shout" to resonate fully.

Actors and Community

The role of St. Francis was played by Mikołaj Kołacz, creating a portrayal full of humility and peace. He was joined by, among others, Mikołaj Bogdał (Leon) and Michał Pęcek (Giuseppe). The strength of the play was the multi-generational cast – from youth to entire families – and the moving musical setting prepared by Marcelina Chromy and Fr. Roland Hopcia.
